Set up a carnival games in your backyard (ring toss, milk can toss, bushel basket toss)! Create fun relays (egg or water balloon toss, clothes relay, 3 legged relay or potato sacks)

Fight the heat with a water-war! End the evening with a fire for the kid's to "watch"!
When my son Jimmy turned 7 the fire department even brought a truck out and blasted the kid's with water for a donation!
Set up a water oasis with slip and slides and sprinklers! Have squirt gun or water balloon battles. Always make up water balloons in advance!
Beach ball races or beach ball toss make for fun competitions.
